Analysis Paralysis is the Gateway to the Abyss

Dwelling in the vanity of the mind transports one to an alternate paradigm of reality in which lies are true and life is debased.

Introduction

Several concepts came out of our discussion of the Black Pill last week.  One of them was the challenge of staying engaged with reality (e.g. facing hardships, interacting with people, etc.), and another was the problem of overthinking.  Actually, these two problems are one and the same.  This post will explain how it works and how to escape this deceptive trap.

Case Study 1 – Social Flow

Roman@OpiumTales told an account of how he can successfully interact with others, so well in fact, that other guys have asked him how he does it.

“He came to my brother’s wedding and noticed how I danced freely and talked freely with women. He asked me how it’s so easy for me to do that.  I told him that I don’t think about it.  I just do it.

So I think the root of the black pill may be overthinking.  A lot of these men are very smart and suffer from analysis paralysis.”

Here, I want to point out that Roman is not just referring to thinking, or thinking too much, or not thinking straight, or bad think, or thinking wrong thoughts, or being illogical, or too logical, or whatever.  The problem with Overthinking has nothing to do with thinking.  It’s about losing FlowThinking is merely the inner world of thoughts, feelings, and confusion that people get lost in when they lose Flow.

Flow is detachment.  Flow is learning and growth.  Flow develops confidence and trust.  Flow is worship.  Flow leads to wisdom.  Flow is a vehicle of blessing others and one’s self.  Flow brings rest to the soul.  Flow leads one to success.  Flow is key.  God is Flow!*

Champion skateboarder, Jaime de Lange.

* Less subjectively and more precisely, Flow is a psychological state through which one can experience the presence and power of God.

Case Study 2 – Stage Fright

One interesting aspect of Flow, is that as long as one is in a state of Flow, one remains unconscious of that fact.  But at the moment one stops to ponder their experience of Flow, one falls out of Flow.  This summarizes the dilemma of ‘overthinking’ anything.  You’ve got to stay in a state of Flow to be successful and to worship and glorify God.

Let me describe what I mean.

When I was younger, I was a bassist in a funk-rock-jazz band.  We practiced every Tuesday evening, and we gave free concerts at the University every Friday night.  We had a younger guy try out as a singer.  He was charismatic, had a great voice, rather mature for his age, but he was green on stage.  When things happened in the audience (e.g. guys horsing around and yelling at the band, women dancing and doing risqué things) he would become self-conscious and trip up his lines.  Even without any distractions, at times he would be overwhelmed with incredulity, as if he were thinking, “LOOK AT ME, Mom!  I can’t believe I’m really doing this!”, and then he’d lose his mojo.  It was hard to decide whether to keep him or go with another guy who wanted in the band.  We had hoped that he would improve with some practice, but before things came to a head, he suddenly quit with no explanation.

IOW, this young man suffered from “choking”, a phenomenon I described in great detail in Confidence and Authenticity in Speech (2009-12-28).  Men who suffer from this problem should read this post.

Changing the Context Changes Reality

Context is everything.

Joe2 alluded to this when he wrote,

“The venue can make all the difference, too.  Weddings, in particular, create the atmosphere where women make themselves appear welcoming and will dance, laugh, talk, etc. with men who they otherwise would reject.  The same approach — not thinking about it and just doing it — could result in a much different outcome if practiced elsewhere.”

When Lastmod hangs around the Manosphere, he’s overthinking everything and making illogical connections and inappropriate rationalizations.  He has a bad mojo full of anger and bitterness, and no Flow.  But I’d be willing to bet that when he’s DJ-ing a dance hall, he’s in his best form and is nothing like how we know him here.  There, he’s into Flow.  He’s got to be, or else he wouldn’t be dancing and DJ-ing for so long.

For guys like Lastmod, I’d have to agree with him that following God, for him, means to keep on truckin’ with the Northern Soul groove, and stay away from churchian christianality where nominal Christians suck him back into the Black Pill’s competitive Frame. “That’s far out, man!”

The challenge of faith for each man is to identify a context in which Reality = True (for himself).

Total Flow is an alternate reality that requires and demonstrates faith therein.

Overthinking Engages One in a Suspension of Disbelief leading to Deception

In response to The Ever Looming Black Pill (2022-9-12), Deep Strength wrote,

“The part where everything gets more complicated is that there can be deceptions in any phase.  Usually deceptions get less and less moving through the anger, bargaining, denial, and depression phases, but that’s not always the case.

For instance, even though most Black Pillers have some level of acceptance of observable sexuality (e.g. RP), they also believe the deception that looks are pretty much all that matters.  Yeah, looks are important, but female attraction is not all based on that.

Jaded/Abyss/Nihilism has always existed whether a man is Blue, Red, Black, God or whatever else there is.”

These deceptions require one to engage in a Suspension of Disbelief.  A previous post described how Suspension of Disbelief works.

“If we are really “into” the fiction – “transported”, as psychologists say – we are… “disinterested”.  We respond aesthetically, even emotionally, but we are without any “skin in the game”, and therefore without any inherent purpose that would engage one’s will.

Σ Frame: Infiltrating the Minds of the Masses through Suspension of Disbelief and Social Catharsis/Cathexis (2022-7-25)
Total Flow requires skin in the game.

“Within this alternate paradigm in which faith is strong but the will has evaporated, humans have trouble recognizing lies.  We first believe in order to tap into the mythological narrative.  We do not judge the truth of what we perceive, even though if we stop being transported and think about it, we know quite well that it is a fiction.  Only after exploring the narrative and understanding it to the point where one is able to employ it and willfully test it through applying its precepts is one able to come to a decision about whether it is true or not.  Otherwise, one will continue to believe the narrative until a shocking collision with the truth of reality upsets one’s delusions.”

Σ Frame: Infiltrating the Minds of the Masses through Suspension of Disbelief and Social Catharsis/Cathexis (2022-7-25)

Men get lost at the point when they forget about searching for the truth (i.e. doing the part in bold), and are swept away in a fantasyland of lies (i.e. the last sentence).  This leads to a frustrated catharsis, AKA the Black Pill, which continues until one makes a deliberate choice to disengage, or is somehow shaken out of it, usually by another collision with reality, which may not be forthcoming for every man.

If there are a large number of people believing the same lies, including both men and women, then an alternate paradigm of reality is created in which the narrative does indeed appear true.

Σ Frame Maxim 29, AKA The Law of Personal Spheres, “Fungible Reality”, “Non-Shared Environment” (Catacomb Resident, Jack): To the man of faith, reality is fungible.  God has given mankind the latitude of having multiple dimensions of coexistent realities.  Each man’s reality is a manifestation of his individual constitution, beliefs, choices, and experiences.  One reality is just as valid as another.  There is no objective reality that we all share.
Corollary A to Maxim 29: Reality is best understood as a living being (God, if you will), a person with all the quirks and variations we would expect from even the most perfect of persons.  And as any real person, reality treats no two of us just the same.
Corollary B to Maxim 29: With all the threads of events and experiences winding through our lives, no two of us will experience reality in precisely the same way.
Corollary C to Maxim 29: It’s only true if you believe it’s true.  Your faith and convictions are the key to discovering and developing the thread of reality God has for you.

Overthinking and Hamstering are Hallmarks of Faithlessness / Unbelief

Hamstering is the female equivalent of male Overthinking in that both men and women lose Flow, lose touch with reality, and get lost in the vanity of their thoughts.  However, it affects the sexes differently.  Where overthinking leads men to do nothing, hamstering leads women to make rash decisions and do things they shouldn’t.

The Bible tells us that “the Gentiles [unbelievers] walk in the futility of their mind”, and that this has some far reaching consequences.

17 This I say, therefore, and testify in the Lord, that you should no longer walk as the rest of the Gentiles walk, in the futility of their mind, 18 having their understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God, because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart; 19 who, being past feeling, have given themselves over to lewdness, to work all uncleanness with greediness.

Ephesians 4:17-19 (NKJV)

Oh, yeah… and OnlyFans!

It gets worse.  Overthinking and Hamstering are the diametric antithesis of Faith, and are therefore the gateway drugs to ħә11.

21 …although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened.  22 Professing to be wise, they became fools…

Romans 1:21-22 (NKJV)

Reading through the rest of Romans 1, we learn that Overthinking and Hamstering causes one to become undiscerning, unforgiving, unloving, unmerciful, and untrustworthy, and eventually leads to all kinds of uncleanness and sin, including arrogance, backstabbing, covetousness, deceit, disrespect to authorities, envy, evil-mindedness, evil schemes, gossiping / whispering, hating God, h0m0sexuality, maliciousness; murder, pride, rebellion, sexual immorality, strife, unrighteousness, violence, and wickedness.

Conclusions

The way to avoid falling into the anger, bitterness, concupiscence, despondency, envy, and frustration which are the hallmarks of the Black Pill, and escape all of the other iniquities listed above, is to stop overthinking it, get off one’s butt, and find ways in which one can experience Flow, and in doing so, worship and glorify God and become productive.

This is exactly what Paul says in scripture.

And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

Romans 12:2 (NKJV)

I notice that Paul is only guided by the Holy Spirit if he is in the process of going about God’s business in the Book of Acts. Trying to travel to Asia(Acts 16:6) then God blocks their way.

Likewise the servant who searched for the wife of Abraham acted to find the suitable wife alongside praying for her.

God certainly doesn’t bless idleness. Especially if it is reasonably in our power. Too many women just pray for a husband expecting for God to give them that. But they do have to go about the business of actually seeking him and asking God to show the way.

As for the negative feedback loop that happened where the notorious E11iot r0dg3r hung at at “PUAHate” and that which more isolated Men are in danger of:

It’s analysing a very believable human villain. Petty and cruel.

Don’t think one’s own sin nature and the demons won’t be using said forums and isolation to drag you down into damnation like what happened with the Columbine murderers.

Demons are capable of encouraging thoughts that take you away from faith in Jesus Christ. And to destroy everything.

Likewise PUAHate was a very demon haunted place. Tearing each other down and seeking to Damn everyone with them into everlasting hell.

There are those who have suggested I have a physiological addiction to exercise. Maybe.

But I am never more clear and focused than when I get back to the house.

Eucharistic adoration, meditation, even prayer are pretty uneventful for me.

One simple step forward that I’ve found a lot of Christian men I’ve dealt with not utilizing is spending personal time with God, aka a “Devotional” or “Quiet Time,” particularly when they first get up (coffee and Scripture, prayer, spiritual music, or whatever the man prefers). To pray and then let God help them throughout the day. Then get up and move on out into the day. Surprisingly, few do it or do it regularly; and I’m talking about guys who go to church or attend church home groups.

I know, it sounds so trite, “having a devotional or quiet time with God”, but I’ve thought long and hard about this over the years. I’ve concluded, I don’t want to start my day without God if I can help it. How unbelievers do it, i.e. navigate life without God, IDK; I know they do it, but I’d rather not think about what it would be like to do it. It’s been several decades since I started “hanging with God” a bit each day, however I can remember what it was like when I wasn’t; my “before Christ (BC) days”, and early Christian days when I didn’t know how to have a Devotional, no one had shown me yet, really I knew nothing about it (ignorance).

And yes, I agree, a lot of this Black Pill thinking comes from OVER ANALYZING a fallen world and fallen humanity, and the Churchian church culture to some degree as well. It also comes from the monotony and crappiness of life in general. Too much Red Pill content can also lead to over analyzing. Continuously pondering women’s ways can lead to a “What’s the use even trying with relationships anymore these days?” In short, there are so many ways to get ourselves “down in the dumps” focusing on all this Pill stuff and not focusing enough on God.

You can only take so much of this stuff IMO, then you have to “come up for air”, like Scott alluded to in him taking a break from this blog for a period of time. For me, it’s a good Devotional time (includes Sunday worship), a solid workout and getting some important stuff done / completed, especially stuff I’ve been procrastinating, that can snap me out of any BP encroachment that I can unwittingly steer myself towards by over analyzing things, or as my men’s team members call it, “mind f’ing something to death.”

      “…spending personal time with God…”

This is a must for every man. Just to “get away” for an hour each day and have a talk with God, have a beer / cigar, watch the sun rise, listen to the birds sing, or whatever. I found that riding my motorcycle through the mountains of Taiwan has always been extremely exhilarating and refreshing for me.

“Too much Red Pill content can also lead to over analyzing.”

Yes! Occasionally I take a break from the hard core Red Pill stuff and post something fun or thoughtful which has nothing to do with the SMP, marriage, sex, wimmin, etc. But these posts never get as many views or comments as the more potent or sensational content. Sometimes I wonder, what do other Red Pill men do for fun (besides read Red Pill blogs)? I think Adam Piggot and Mogadishu Matt are the only other Manospherians who occasionally write off the cuff about some interesting event that happened during the day. Scott used to do this at American Dad, but not any more.

For me, playing guitar, riding my motorcycle (HD Superglide), playing golf, and believe it or not, working out is enjoyable for me too. Taking my dogs to the dog park is another source of enjoyment for me. I like going to the gym and listening to YouTube’s or Music, depending on my mood. I also take a lot of adult education classes on line in Philosophy in the Ontology (study of Being, as in the Being part of human being).

I do like studying relationships because it is a huge, HUGE part of life. It begins with our relationship with God, then extends to our fellow men, women, children, as well as intimate male-female relationships. I’ve found that even though my education was in something “harder” than the “soft” sciences of Philosophy and Sociology / Psychology (I have degrees in Business and Political Science), I’ve always had an interest in these subjects. Even back in college I took them as electives because I found them interesting and a break from all my Business subjects.

I do woodworking. In the link I cited, the board game cabinet in the picture is the (unfinished) cabinet that I made myself. The top piece is quite beautiful. I also made two crate desks, and documented the process here.

I rebuilt my car’s engine (new clutch, new timing belt, new head gasket and seals, new radiator, new water pump) after it blew a head gasket and sat in my driveway for two years.

I’m into photography, hundreds of which are on the Wikimedia Commons under my “User:Ram-Man” username. They pop up often on Google Images searches. I’m a gardener and on a good year grow something like 40 tomato plants, hauling in 5-10 lbs a day during the peak season. I like to cook and have declared myself famous for my pumpkin pie recipe made with actual pumpkin.

        And I have 5 kids.

Catholics have something called an adoration chapel. The eucharist is present, so you are quite literally spending time with God. Standard fare is one hour (Matthew 26:40) but you are free to stay as long or short as you need. Pray, read, or just sit quietly and hang out. I’ve never once regretted going.

      — Fear of regret?

      — Fear of consequences?
      — Fear of having a guilty conscience?

Just like Cynics cope by calling their cynicism as “Maturity” and “Growing up”.

Its an excuse for stewing in bitterness and failure to confront True Reality. Which includes Beauty, Truth and Goodness. Ultimately exemplified in God.

Not only for this lack of faith but causing others to lose heart and cause them to disbelieve God also angers God even when the Israelites went through immense suffering as slaves this blackpill attitude is treason:

      Numbers 13:25-14:11 (BSB)
25 After forty days the men returned from spying out the land, 26 and they went back to Moses, Aaron, and the whole congregation of Israel in the Wilderness of Paran at Kadesh. They brought back a report for the whole congregation and showed them the fruit of the land.
27 And they gave this account to Moses: “We went into the land to which you sent us, and indeed, it is flowing with milk and honey. Here is some of its fruit! 28 Nevertheless, the people living in the land are strong, and the cities are large and fortified. We even saw the descendants of Anak there. 29 The Amalekites live in the land of the Negev; the Hittites, Jebusites, and Amorites live in the hill country; and the Canaanites live by the sea and along the Jordan.”
30 Then Caleb quieted the people before Moses and said, “We must go up and take possession of the land, for we can certainly conquer it!”
31 But the men who had gone up with him replied, “We cannot go up against the people, for they are stronger than we are!”
32 So they gave the Israelites a bad report about the land that they had spied out: “The land we explored devours its inhabitants, and all the people we saw there are great in stature. 33 We even saw the Nephilim there — the descendants of Anak that come from the Nephilim! We seemed like grasshoppers in our own sight, and we must have seemed the same to them!”

1 Then the whole congregation lifted up their voices and cried out, and that night the people wept. 2 All the Israelites grumbled against Moses and Aaron, and the whole congregation said to them, “If only we had died in the land of Egypt, or if only we had died in this wilderness! 3 Why is the LORD bringing us into this land to fall by the sword? Our wives and children will become plunder. Would it not be better for us to go back to Egypt?”
4 So they said to one another, “Let us appoint a leader and return to Egypt.”
5 Then Moses and Aaron fell facedown before the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel.
6 Joshua son of Nun and Caleb son of Jephunneh, who were among those who had spied out the land, tore their clothes 7 and said to the whole congregation of Israel, “The land we passed through and explored is an exceedingly good land. 8 If the LORD delights in us, He will bring us into this land, a land flowing with milk and honey, and He will give it to us. 9 Only do not rebel against the LORD, and do not be afraid of the people of the land, for they will be like bread for us. Their protection has been removed, and the LORD is with us. Do not be afraid of them!”
10 But the whole congregation threatened to stone Joshua and Caleb. Then the glory of the LORD appeared to all the Israelites at the Tent of Meeting. 11 And the LORD said to Moses, “How long will this people treat Me with contempt? How long will they refuse to believe in Me, despite all the signs I have performed among them?”.”

Despite God’s resurrection in Jesus Christ and the hope offered by the Gospel. They are in reality treating God with contempt by making others lose heart with them. And by their lack of gratitude of the situations that God has brought them out of previously.

And also to lose their faith. Can you really call that “Maturity” or “Morality”?

    “Flow is detachment. “

The Anabaptists believe in “Separation from Evil”, that one should have no part in earthly sin, that it be put away. Or “to be in the world, but not of it.” Some take this more literally than others, but the basic idea is the same. This seems related to the concepts of psychological detachment and avoiding defilement.

The problem is fear, a manifestation of not trusting God and letting worldly matters swamp you.

“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? [..] But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” — Matthew 6

In my study on submission these past two weeks, I came back to 1 Peter, a letter on suffering written to persecuted foreigners, slaves bound to unbelieving masters, and believers yolked to unbelievers:

“For this is the way the holy women of the past who put their hope in God used to adorn themselves. They submitted themselves to their own husbands, like Sarah [..] You are her daughters if you do what is right and do not give way to fear. [..] Repay evil with blessing, because to this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing. [..] But even if you should suffer for what is right, you are blessed. “Do not fear their threats; do not be frightened.””

“Analysis paralysis” is rooted in fear. Perhaps this is guilt from sin, in which case repentance is required and it is then left behind. Perhaps this is fear of future negative consequences, in which case fear clouds good judgment. No matter what it is, fear needs to be eliminated and replaced with fear of God.

  8. Wonderful article!

Flow is right. It is the magic word.

You either have it or you don’t.

I’m currently re-reading Matthew and really seeing how Jesus had flow. People would say something and he’d have the perfect response instantly.

I especially like the parts where he tested people’s faith. You saw that either they had faith or they didn’t.

I don’t think you need faith to have flow but if you really had faith (not fake faith but the real deal), you’d have flow.

Analysis paralysis is indeed rooted in fear and fear can be overcome by faith. Like when Jesus was walking on water and Peter wanted to walk on water too. So Peter gets out of the ship and starts also walking on water. But then if I remember correctly, it got windy and Peter got scared and started to panic (and of course started to sink). And Jesus’s response?

    You guessed it.
