Headship vs. Hyperagency

I’ve spent about 50 days putting together 26 posts about female agency, moral agency, and accountability.  Even so, I’ve only just scratched the surface of this topic.  I plan to continue examining the concepts we’ve learned from this study and apply these insights to the topics of future posts.

St. Paul also “just” scratched the surface when he wrote,

Yet those who marry will have worldly troubles, and I would spare you that.

1 Corinthians 7:28 (ESV)

It is an enduring source of irritation to us that St. Paul glosses over these issues in such trite language, never really letting on what a pain in the neck it can be.  I do not think this is because it is not important to our spiritual lives, because it is of central importance.  I would rather believe it is because he would have to write a small library to cover it all, and it wouldn’t make much of a difference anyway.  I also believe basic Red Pill knowledge was much more commonly known in times past, and men had more authority than they do now, so the truth of the Red Pill wasn’t like the gospel of intersexual relationships, as we tend to regard it now.

Oscar et al. have posed the following questions,

“That women possess moral agency seems like a foregone conclusion to me.  So then the question becomes, “Great! Now what?”

I know some readers are going to barf in their throats when I repeat this, but if Western men are ever going to solve our wimminz problems, then it’s really up to men to take women to task, hold them accountable, and teach them to exercise agency.

“How do we hold women accountable?”

In addition to the basics (e.g. knowing yourself, pursuing your purpose, etc.), here’s a list of 22 things to get men started — all things we’ve written about before.

  1. Strive to assume a position of Headship, especially to be her head.
  2. Be aware of your Masculine Presence and use it to your advantage.
  3. Speak with confidence and authenticity. This carries a lot of import with a woman.
  4. Start believing that the women within our domain of influence (friends, girlfriends, wives, daughters, and even some elderly women) are subject to our authority.
  5. In general, expect Christian excellence seasoned with grace.
  6. Offer Moral Guidance Based Feedback with the aim of increasing trust.
  7. Encourage women to make hard decisions and take responsibility for the consequences of their choices instead of avoiding it. (This is very important for fathers with daughters.)
  8. Start exercising some agency in correcting and disciplining women whenever they fail to exercise agency. (Also very important for fathers.)
  9. Learn to discern what is truly your own sh!t, and what is her own projection of you.
  10. Be proactive about inspiring her introspection with a mindset of redemption.
  11. Gently lead her towards Repentance and Submission.
  12. Be aware of which type of submission needs improvement, and concentrate on that.
  13. Make women aware of their own nature.
  14. Teach women how to respond appropriately within a given context.
  15. Draw boundaries and state expectations.
  16. Impose demands with clear consequences.
  17. Don’t succumb to her demands.
  18. Don’t admit her argument.
  19. Recognize your limits (both yours and hers) and improvise methods to reinforce areas of weakness.
  20. Employ forgiveness, but only when appropriate.
  21. Pray vigilantly and incessantly.
  22. Last but not least, try to make all of this engagingly entertaining and/or fun if possible.

As you can see, many of these points involve imposing Frame. As for the others, it’s ridiculous to assume that women are ever going to do all this for themselves.

These actions should not be confused with male hyperagency as these concepts are not at all the same and have entirely different purposes.  Male hyperagency enables female hypoagency, infantile solipsism, and the Feminine Imperative.  Responsible male Headship disables and punishes these things.

Employing Operant Conditioning with the aim of helping women escape solipsism and exercise agency is essentially what it means to “love your wives” (Ephesians 5:25-33; 1 Peter 3:7).  Judging by the adverse responses to this assertion, it seems that it is just as difficult for men to love their wives as it is for wives to respect their husbands.

Does it Matter?

Back when we were discussing the Black Pill (in mid-September 2022), RPA mentioned to me in a private email that some men are as non-agentic as women are.  They do not perceive that they have any agency.  They have a trend of applying the idea that life is out of their control, that women are unmanageable, and this appears to be at least some of the source of their bitterness (hence the Black Pill).  What they do not fully grasp is that in those instances when they believe they are in control and take hold of the reins of their lives, they do well.

In saying these things, I am NOT blaming men for women’s sin.  I am not saying that that a woman’s incessant emoting, incomplicit reasoning, lack of accountability, sh!t tests, sin, solipsism, rebelliousness, etc., are just a failure of her man to lead her properly.  That would be male hyperagenticism.  I believe a lot of that is the because of the bad influence of the herd mentality and the surrounding debased culture. More broadly, it’s the result of the failures of earlier generations, their polity, churchianity, and how they raised their daughters. The present situation is the spiritual inheritance we have received from an evil generation.  If women want to follow after that folly and they don’t want to fall in line with God’s ordained order, then that is on them.  It’s her choice whether or not to submit.  But as men, we should at least be offering women the choice to comply with God’s ordained order and give them the opportunity to find redemption.  This is how men extend Christian Love to the women in their care.

I am telling men to look at the hand they’ve been dealt in life, which includes the present debauched SMP/MMP, women’s rebelliousness, etc., to search their souls to find what God requires of them, and to make a decision and take action.  Don’t fall into the same rut that women are prone to do, i.e. failing to perceive that we have any agency.

Every man’s actions matter and can make a difference. Look at how women have responded to MGTOW.  And this, in spite of the fact that MGTOW doesn’t really affect them in any real way.  The larger lesson from this is that Men must believe that (1) women will respond when men take action, and (2) women will fall in line with the larger order that men create.  They must.

Rise up, O men of God!  Do not let the conditions of your life be dictated by this evil age!

Reader’s Note: Σ Frame will go into winter hibernation for the holidays.  I will resume posting on January 2.  Enjoy your time with family, friends, and those most dear.

Merry Christmas!

“Every man’s actions matter and can make a difference. Look at how women have responded to MGTOW. And this, in spite of the fact that MGTOW doesn’t really affect them in any real way.”

This is how we start. Each man has a little sphere of influence, and he can effect change there. The timeless metaphor of the man at the beach throwing one starfish after another back into the sea (from a beach full of them), and being questioned by a passerby, “Why are you doing that? It makes no difference with all these hundreds of starfish littering the beach.” And the guy’s answer back as he throws another back in, “Well, it did for that one!”

Keep your mind from focusing too much on society at large, especially western society, and the “bad influence of the herd mentality and the surrounding debased culture.” It can lead to thoughts of helplessness in the face of something that appears overwhelming, analogous to the infamous line from Star Trek’s Borg, “Resistance is futile.” It’s not, it just appears that way. Kind of like the stereotypical big bully on the playground. He appears overwhelming until some kid, usually scrawny one, belts him in the face.

Yes, it can be daunting, but I’m finding, even as an older guy, that each “little RP victory” in here (me), or out there (in society) adds up, and in some way connects up with what other guys are doing; and it begins to make a difference, subtle at first, but you can sense it.

That’s what I think is happening with MGTOW. In the last year alone, the number of video clips of women complaining about it seems to be skyrocketing. That to me is a signal that something is happening “out there.” We just need to stay the course, be realists about it, and “Ninja-like” keep spreading RP concepts and actions. Funny thing I’ve found, most women seem to like this RP stuff deep down, gives them the tingles, or at least goosebumps. Most will NEVER admit it, but guys beginning to act like men again, deep down they dig it, even though the herd rails and wails against it 24/7.

It starts even before that, with ourselves. Ultimately, we can only control ourselves, but there’s a lot there we can control — our fitness, the skills we master, our relationship with God, our finances, etc.

After that, you move on to the what-not-to-do. Stop rescuing foolish women from the consequences of their foolishness. You are not Captain Save-a-Ho. You’re not obligated to let foolish, destructive women into your life.

Older men who already made that mistake can talk to RPA and Deti about what to do at that point.

I wrote this in a previous post’s comments. Evil people love to infect others with a “can’t win, may as well not try” attitude, because they get off on watching others fail and suffer. Don’t let them do that to you.

Very true. The current generation of elder women came of age during the advent of Second-Wave Feminism (2WF) and absorbed its toxic message to the very core of their being. Extremely rare is the woman of that generation who was unaffected by it. That’s why today’s older women serve mainly to teach the younger ones new and more creative ways to be toxic and rebellious against God’s design for them. It’s why the “Titus 2 Woman” is all but extinct in the Western church today.

“…the “Titus 2 Woman” is all but extinct in the Western church today.”

Extinct? Well in the first place, I strongly believe that particular piece of Scripture just makes many people very, very, very uncomfortable especially for those with “modern” or “contemporary” sensitivities which is par for the course in this age (of “diversity”) we live in. In fact, if there were some magic wand to zap these passages away (together with those in Colossians, 1 Peter, Ephesians and even Proverbs 31) or for some well-respected theologian to openly declare these as cultural-specific and no longer of any relevance, these people would cheer and punch their collective fists in the air.

And instead of teaching young women, the older married ones dominate Sunday School (since the pulpit and worship leading are still off-limits to them) in my church. Uncomfortable guffaws could usually be heard whenever the bride gets to the submission part of the vow during weddings. That, or she’ll devise something funny to diffuse the severity of such an important vow before God and the guests would usually laugh along while the bridegroom smiles uncomfortably and the presiding pastor smiles like a Cheshire Cat.

Yep my grandma was out here having sex at 14 pregnant at 16 with my mom. Claims to b Christian but doesn’t go to church and never sees her grand children or great grand children too comfortable with all that feminism the govt gave, she don’t need us.

Then we find out on my dad’s side his mom had kids before him with another man! Wtf. Great role models for young women. They weren’t wearing polka dot aprons baking pies. I will say this for the older women who are holding it down them and their husbands are getting the same bs stories about where did all the good men go. Not me and my gf are having 3somes with Chad and I ignore men in my smv reality.

There is a Chinese proverb that says something to this effect: “One’s religion is as deep as one’s sin”, implying that some deeply religious people are only that way because of their guilt and shame. The beauty of this proverb is that it can be interpreted and applied in many different contexts in terms of one’s self-awareness, repentance, behaviors, and moral agency. I think this is just as true in the West.

I would love a RIP from Yellowstone’s view of female agency. I’ve never watched the show but half the chicks on Facebook reposted how much they love him and his woman Beth’s relationship. So I watched a highlight reel and my God he may have married the most disgusting demon possessed woman on modern TV. Rip is the beta in an abusive relationship with this harlot. Whenever women comment positively or even enthusiastically about a woman’s relationship with her bf/husband, that should serve as a very bright red flag. Rest assured that this indicates that the relationship consists of a ball-busting demonatrix lording it over a defeated wuss of a man.

Yellowstone has its flaws, but is worth watching. (John Dutton (Costner) is pretty old school trying to protect his land and a decent male character from Hollywood, which is a surprise.)

Rip is the alpha of The Cowboys. Everyone fears him. He is the “problem solver”. He is a bad @ss who takes no sh!t from anyone. He protects what he loves, he respects true authority and is completely loyal to those that matter. People feel safe when Rip is around, and he’s almost superhuman in his ability to prevail in times of conflict and danger. He is a man’s man in the male arena.

Beth, his woman in the show, is the loose cannon, super smart, alpha female who grew up with money and privilege, became feral and a loose cannon as she aged (some trauma contributed), did whatever she wanted whenever she wanted, controlled men and situations, had no rules or restraints, slept with whomever she wanted whenever she wanted. She eventually decided her feral life stage was over and decided to settle down with Rip. (She proposed.) Now they are married and he protects her like he protects everything he cares about and holds none of her feral years against her. He never once hinted that he worried her past might influence her ability to be a good wife. He is her knight in shining armor that makes her feel safe and saves her when her feral nature inevitably breaks through.

Women LOVE him. Protector Alpha Cowboy that doesn’t put up with sh!t from anyone outside the home, and loves his woman without any judgment of her feral nature. Perfect man.

Good analysis of the Beth-Rip relationship. They have a long history though and the show delves into that. It’s also a highly idealized relationship.

Rip and Beth are about the same age and have known each other since John “adopted” Rip from orphanhood and put him to work on the ranch in his mid-teens. Beth has endured crushing emotional traumas and dealt with it by using her personality to become a superb!tch who steamrolls everyone and everything in her path.

Rip is shown to be an overly sensitive and sexually inexperienced boy to Beth’s wizened cynicism. In adulthood, Rip loves Beth deeply and carries a torch for her. Beth depends on Rip as the only man who can even come close to handling her.

In real life, a Rip-Beth relationship would be the human equivalent of a particle supercollider. They are matter and antimatter, the union of which results in Hiroshima-like explosions. A real life Rip and Beth would never, ever be able to get along. A real life Rip would have moved on the moment Beth left the ranch for SLC. A real life Rip would never put up with Beth’s sh!t. A real life Beth would never even try to submit to any man, because she simply doesn’t have to. And yet… and yet…. in fiction, Rip and Beth make it work. That’s the appeal — Rip and Beth are the success of the impossible relationship.

They literally use made up people (created to play on women’s fantasies in order to extract money) to form their expectations for how reality should work.

Off topic; but on topic for the blog:

Here’s Aaron Renn’s latest from his Substack.

    https://aaronrenn.substack.com/p/why-sen-josh-hawley-telling-young?utm_source=substack&utm_medium=email

Missouri Senator Josh Hawley tells men to “man up”. Hawley says men need to start asking women out, take women out on dates, get married, and have children. He chides men for not doing any of this. Renn says this won’t work. His analysis is behind a paywall so we don’t know what Renn says about this, but he’s sufficiently Red Pilled that I think he knows the score.

    Why won’t this work?

    — Most men aren’t attractive enough to compete in today’s SMP/RMP.

    — The only way most men today can get anything is to rent it from the OASIS.

    — If men can’t rent it from the OASIS they have to do without.

    — The problem isn’t men. It’s women. Women decide what men get attention, when, and under what circumstances. Women decide what, if anything, comes from any interactions she has with men. Men display; women choose.

    — Men will not continue displaying when no one picks them. At some point, continued effort is pointless. Men will not continue when they can’t get anywhere. More and more men are at that point with women.

Without spoiling too much of his content to respect his paywall, I’ll summarize the post-paywall part of the article. He gives additional analysis on each of these points that is fairly in-depth.

      What does Hawley get right?

      — He is focused on important issues — pr0n consumption, lack of life motivation, declining family formation and fertility rates, and the need to focus on others not just ones’ self.
      — He’s right to encourage men.
      — He’s right to challenge men and call them to be something more than they are at present.
      — He’s right to tell men to be an initiator, not an actor or reactor.

      All good, but…

      What does Hawley get wrong?

      — His cultural diagnosis. Renn doesn’t believe men are simply told to be passive consumers or cubicle dwellers.
      — His vision of a man’s productive life is entirely oriented around marriage and children, which is a domestic vision. Renn notes that this roughly Evangelical point of view reduces the scope of masculine vocation and make’s a man’s mission his wife and children. (He references another post he wrote called “The Vocation of Masculinity”.) Men need/want a vision for their lives that is larger than just family life.
      — His message is typically phrased aspirationally, which can sometimes work for men, but especially in a mixed-gender audience, sometimes comes across as shaming men in front of women, which isn’t helpful.
      — His call to men is entirely about sacrifice and duty without any discussion of the commensurate rewards and honor (or lack thereof in today’s society).
      — Hawley gives no comparable message to women. He doesn’t encourage women to stop pursuing careers and fun city lives to get married and have kids.

Renn identifies that “man up” messages don’t work well anymore because the system is set up against them in today’s society. At the end he hints at what could be done about this, including:

      — Political reform of divorce / child custody / child support laws.
      — Being willing to deliver unpopular messages to men AND women.
      — Being honest with men about the way the system currently works and giving them advice that works in today’s world, not the world of 50 years ago.

To deti’s points, it seems to me that Renn’s analysis of Hawley’s message is accurate but he stops short of identifying things that women do that contribute to the problem (although he does mention the effects of feminism — men are still expected to be Ward Cleaver but women are free to do as they please via feminism). And he doesn’t address challenges in the SMP/MMP. However, that may be a separate issue as compared to the topic this post or he may not be willing to be quite that bold to step on women’s toes.

That’s the main problem. Hawley thinks that this is all men’s fault. It isn’t. It’s women too. In fact it is mostly women. Women are the ones who decide. Women are the ones rejecting average men left and right. No one calls women out on their bad behavior because that’s “mean” and “not nice” and “misogynistic”. And no one wants to be called “incel”.

Until about 30 or so years ago, “man up” had a very specific meaning. It was…

Boy, pull it together. There’s work to be done and we need every swinging d!ck we can muster. Leave problems, girls, etc. here and get moving. There’s things we gotta get done and we need your help.

Today, after women and churchians commandeered most men, “man up” now means…

It’s time for you to stop doing for yourself and start doing for women. You need to get a job, get married, buy stuff, accumulate wealth, and turn all of it over to your wife so she can use it to support her children. You need to marry a single mom because they need men too. You need to start doing your part to save Western Civilization.

“Man up” used to be a clarion call to men to grow up, stiffen their resolves, and get things done. Now, “man up” is a shaming tactic designed to get men to give their money to women.

Man up rants will not inspire Millenials and Zoomers to marry. Renn’s no p0rn rant will not inspire Millenials and Zoomers to step away from the screens. Pointing out evil and sin is not good enough to inspire young men to the good of family formation.

What is needed is honour, respect, and admiration for husbands and fathers. Can anyone point out commercial, economic, or social examples of men being respected just for being husbands and fathers, since at least the 1970’s? I can’t think of any, not even in the churches. Hawley’s man up rant gave no suggestion that husbands and fathers should be respected.

Renn responded to Hawley’s rant with an emphasis on p0rn. Can anyone think of popular culture or Christian culture examples where straight male sexuality, properly used and directed is respected? According to my reading, despite all the kink available, the most popular porn is male/female PIV. Porn respects the visual nature of male sexuality and the bonding that can result from sex. Renn asks young men to give up one of the few sources of respect for straight male sexuality they can find.

If I were giving a rant to encourage marriage and in wedlock childbearing my rants would be:

“To all executives of consumer product companies, quit showing commercials that include husbands and fathers as clueless dolts, and quit showing wives and mothers as contemptuous termagants that no man with a shred of self respect would want to commit to. Decades of these commercial conditioning has vastly reduced the willingness of Millenials and Zoomers to marry and start families. Who is going to buy your products without family formation?”

“To all producers of popular culture products likewise as above. Have you no creative talent that can show men as competent, albeit flawed in the roles of husband and fathers?”

“To all married women and women who wish to marry, learn to pray. Our Father is an easy one and while you pray ask for a spirit of respect and submission to your husband or potential future husband. And while you are at it, pray for a spirit of forgiveness lest you condemn yourselves. You do not have to be a Christian to pray, but let the Holy Spirit influence your lives.”

“To all wives, sex your husbands up real good! Do not unreasonably refuse and even initiate sometimes. One husband telling his single friends that marriage is GREAT, will do far more to encourage young men to marry than anything Hawley, Renn, or I can say.”

As compared to “Senator Hawley” who “fights daily for Americans” while he enjoys secret service protection that continues for a lifetime even after he leaves office, separate health care (cough), superior health care guaranteed at Walter Reed, a starting salary of well over 175K a year, a separate pension from social security, the best and newest cellphone provided, all “living expenses” while in DC, all kinds of small perks within the office (frank mail, exemption from countless laws that the rest of men… and women… must abide by), immediate social connections for their children to attend some of the finest private prep schools in the DC / Virginia / Delaware / Maryland area without needing to have good grades but only just the title of “daddy is a senator”.

And he says, “Oh yes… Men just need to “step up” today, get married, and be fathers… Eeaassyy!” Just go to Josh Hawley’s church, accept Jesus, and plenty of women will just burn the roast beef on just wanting to be a wife and mother.

Again. A-holes like Carlson here and Hawley still………… STILL…….. put 150% of the burden on these “men who are addicted to porn and sit in cubicles all day.” (Meanwhile, the policies of Hawley’s and his party have helped drive manufacturing OUT of the USA. Mind you, I watched Reaganomics shut down everything in the northeast one fine 1980’s day.)

While women???? Oh, they just want a really great guy to “step up”, and its ALWAYS assumed that women are just ready by default… and these “men” just need to “grow up”.

“Man Up” is another example of a value inversion. Just like our enemies use the same Christian terminology but change their meanings.

Even Christian Orthodoxy gets skinsuited to serve leftism or egalitarianism. They took over the RC and Prot denominations in the USA and Europe. And they will be doing the same to EO over time.

Being a revert to Catholicism, I decided to look into some of the men’s groups available. Your choices are KoC and That Man Is You. Apparently they’re both aware of the “crisis of masculinity” and have made some video series on the topic in recent years. I swear to you every. single. one. has the same message: being a man means sacrificing yourself for your family. Grind yourself into dust so the women and children can shine. Just like Joseph did. Makes me puke. They both do good work concerning prayer life and spiritual warfare, but you really have to sift to find it. I keep thinking about what’s going to happen in 5 years if there is a Rooshian flood of men coming into the Church with no intention or prospects of getting married. You can’t tell those men to sacrifice for their families; they won’t be having any. What will be their message then?

It’s all so tiresome. These people are clueless.

To me, this gets to something I wrote about at Spawny’s.

It’s that people aren’t listening to men. Women aren’t listening to men. And men aren’t listening to each other.

Whenever I bring things like this up at churches, church services, men’s meetings, or church family meetings, the responses are always the same:

“Well, men just have to learn how to sacrifice.”

“Well, men just aren’t doing what they’re supposed to be doing.”

“Well, men need to step up and take care of business.”

Wait. But men are doing those things, and you’re telling them they just have to do more. You’re telling them they can’t have anything they want.

“Well, men aren’t entitled to sex.”

But men are entitled to sex from their wives.

“No, men have to earn that. No one is entitled to anything from anybody.”

That’s not true. The Bible says that wives and husbands are entitled to all kinds of things from each other.

“Well, that’s different. Plus, no one is entitled to sex.”

Not true. The Bible says husbands and wives are entitled to sex from each other.

“Well, that just all sounds harsh to me. Men can’t go around just demanding things from their wives.”

But wives can demand things from their husbands?

“Well, that’s different. Wives are the weaker sex.”

So there’s just no circumstance in which men can have anything?

“Well, men can have things if they learn how to sacrifice. They’re not doing what they’re supposed to be doing…..”

And on and on it goes. Women get everything, men get nothing. Wives are entitled to all kinds of things; husbands are entitled to absolutely nothing. This is untenable and cannot stand.

On the one hand, that’s true. On the other hand, that’s not the only thing being a man is about.

Besides, most men naturally sacrifice themselves for their families. No one has to tell them to do it. That’s one of the reasons I love Human Planet. The men in that documentary are pagans, yet they do by nature what the Bible commands them to do.

The problem here is that young men see too much risk, and insufficient reward in starting a family.

“The problem here is that young men see too much risk, and insufficient reward in starting a family.”

Lack of honors and True Authority that comes with Responsibility is in itself injustice.

Justice is just as much a proper allocation of rewards as punishment. In accordance with Merit and in accordance with the Dignity of the Position in the Hierarchy.

It is Righteous that a King dress in fine rainment in Court for example. Not pretend to be a Pauper in inappropriate occasions for example in Formal settings.

It is Righteous for a Palace to be of the Finest Beauty of the Kingdom.

Beauty in itself isn’t White-Washed Tombs. But what Jesus criticized is that lack of consistency of the Internal with the Outward:

        Matthew 23:26
Blind Pharisee! First clean the inside of the cup and dish, so that the outside may become clean as well.

The Temple with all its Artistry that God commissioned and shown in a Vision to David:

        1 Chronicles 28:19
All this,” said David, “all the details of this plan, the LORD has made clear to me in writing by His hand upon me.

Was done because it was Righteous to do so. Because it is a Earthly copy of the Heavenly pattern.

To make it ugly like the Modernist / Post-Modernist Architects do is to make it contrary to what is Good and Holy. It is to invert the Heavenly and thereby to despise God in doing so.

      Too funny!

On the gym thing, I’ve noticed that when a man speaks to a woman at the gym, it’s so unusual, it’s almost to the point of looking weird. The women walk around in gym attire that I refer to as “naked while dressed,” and the men go about their business working out acting like the women aren’t even there. Sure, everyone is looking, but it’s all done clandestinely, and you rarely see any interaction between the sexes.

Oh, how times have changed in the last 30-40 years or so of my lifetime.

When I was bartending in a college-aged bar / club during graduate school (1991-1993), I didnt see too many hook-ups. The only bartender that got action had a nice lean jaw, taller than me, bluer eyes than me, and he somehow always had time to chat up the gals while the rest of us guys (usually four of us were behind the bar) were pretty much slammed busy from 6 PM til the last call on Friday and Saturday nights. He seemed to always get a blow-job at some point every Friday or Saturday. The owner always “threatened him” about getting fired, but he never did fire him. The good looking can do know wrong.

Being a college aged bar, and mostly women showing up on weeekends… tips were terrible.

I noticed all the girls who were my age (GenX) at this bar all “had a boyfriend”… until Chad showed up. Then suddenly they were “on a break”, or “he’s abusive, and I really dont know how to leave.” (What a crock!)

We were all undergrad and grad students. Guys still had to fork over $$$ for drinks for a gal. On the last Friday of the month, girls paid “half price” while guys who were just as poor as the girls had to “man up” and pay for their drinks.

The only saving payback I ever got there was I knew the codes to the jukebox (an early CD one) so I would watch Stacy put money in for Sheryl Crow, Indigo Girls, Lilith Fair….. and I would use the code to “block” their selection.

“Ummm, I’m still waiting for the jukebox to play my selection. Can I have my money back? I’m getting ready to leave…”

“Angel, there are so many songs backed up on that thing, you’ll be lucky to hear them tonight. We don’t control the jukebox. There is phone number you can call and ask to get a refund.”

Monday nights were the best to work because they showed “Monday night football” and the crowd was 99% guys who just wanted to watch their team lose. I did have a few good convos back then, I will admit. The atmosphere was slower, quieter, and I was usually by myself working (meaning stuff actually got done behind the bar).

        Long time ago now.

A few weeks ago, I was in an open-air retail shopping plaza to go to a specialty store. The store was no longer there and in its place was a gym. I thought I would ask at the gym if they knew the whereabouts of the specialty store.

I was greeted at the front counter by a very attractive young woman. It was easy to tell she had a perfect body because her attire looked like it was painted on. Of course, she didn’t know anything about the specialty store and had to ask a manager. I noticed signs posted which stated that harassment of gym members will not be tolerated and you will be asked to leave. The manager looked more like a bouncer. He gave me directions to the store’s new location.

The lesson I learned is that gyms are the wrong venue for meeting women.

“The lesson I learned is that gyms are the wrong venue for meeting women.”

Totally! Like I said, it’s weird in the gyms. The gyms are not like back-in-the-day “sweat shops,” where men are pounding it out, grunting from the heavy loads, and dropping weights on the ground. No spartan like atmosphere.

So, okay, the women want to work out in a co-ed gym, got it. I will give the women at my gym credit, the vast majority of them are focused and intentional with their workouts, just like the men. That’s a good thing. HOWEVER, why not dress down a bit? You know, gym clothes and not looking like they’re getting ready to go “clubbing” at the gym. Why near camel toe shorts, and occasionally, an actual camel toe outline? Why the skimpy thong-like underwear and the form fitting pants, aka “naked while dressed” effect? I like it, but why?

I get it, and I don’t get it. AND, I’d say 95% or more of the women at the gym are dressed this way. To me, and I’ll admit I’m from another generation altogether, I like the look, what man wouldn’t; BUT, what’s the purpose, inciting clandestine lust all over the place? Making some sort of statement?

When women go clubbing and dressed the way they are dressed, I get that too. And, I understand the purpose for it is part of creating the male-female interface, i.e. the “dance” of sexual tension. BUT, at the gym; and with no interaction whatsoever? Educate this old man a bit guys. Make it make sense.

I heard a term the other day, “Pretty Privilege,” that captured this in a way that hadn’t quite occurred to me. It was not a guy, but an older girl, mid-thirties, she was reflecting back on her pretty privilege from when she was in her late teens and early twenties. She was actually doing a good job of it, good in the sense she was describing it and not moaning or mad about losing it.

What was interesting is that she shared the various ways her pretty privilege worked for her. I had no idea the AMOUNT of ways it worked in her favor; apparently, she was a real fox with a full figure, at least a 9 on the ‘hot babe scale.” Some guy would always be “making it easy” for her, and we’re not talking about just opening doors for her. For example, she said she got her car repaired on a couple of occasions and didn’t pay a dime! Free gratis.

It was like she rolled out of bed each day to see what the guys were going to do for her that day (a bit of an exaggeration on my part, but not a whole lot). IOW, what kind of favors would she get from men, or in situations where men ran things, like at work or at the bar, etc. She mentioned the only drawback was with women, they didn’t like her pretty privilege one bit, and let her know in different ways, mostly subtle.

And then, it gradually started to disappear, her pretty privilege. As she aged it slowly decreased. Now, she’s mid-thirties and she feels “invisible.” In her case, not invisible like the forty somethings feel (“The men don’t hit on me anymore”), invisible to FAVORS. She gets one here and there, but nowhere near the level of attention and favors she used to get when she was a hot twenty something.

It really isn’t a crock. The girls were just “letting the guys down easy” rather than creating a confrontation with an outright rejection which would then require an explanation. The outcome is the same — the guys are out of luck. Guys who are in college should already know that and expect such a response.

In my dating days, it was more common for girls to give their phone number. Guys got their hopes up, but when they called it was a disappointment. The girls were always busy — “I’m shopping for my cousin’s wedding”, “My aunt just got sick and I have to be with her”, or some other feeble excuse. The rule of thumb was to call twice and if she was “busy” again, forget her and throw her phone number in the trash.

“Recently released data shows that abortions committed in the state of Texas have decreased by 97 percent since the overturning of Roe v. Wade.

Based on data reported by the Texas Health and Human Services Commission, 68 total abortions were committed in the month of July in Texas compared to the 2,533 babies who were killed in January.”

    Texans aren’t stopping there.

“Texas Right to Life wrote in a December 1 press release. “Legal elective abortion is no more in the state of Texas, and lives are being saved at unprecedented levels. However, we must remain vigilant at all times. The abortion industry will seize every opportunity possible, legal or not, to continue waging war against preborn children.”

“We cannot let them feel encouraged or comfortable at getting away with 67 elective abortions. That is why we are prioritizing passing legislation that holds abortionists accountable for their lawlessness. Texans need to show them that 67 is still too many, and we will not stop until every innocent human life is protected in Texas.”

Keep up the pressure, Texans! God is just, and His justice cannot sleep forever.
