Calling All Angels

Lately, I’ve had a really tough time with my life. I knew I could do better, and I wanted to do better, but there have been so many important and urgent things at once. I have too many responsibilities, and I don’t have enough time or energy to do my best.

The thing that makes this so excruciating is that I have felt so utterly alone, and like the fate of the whole world is on my shoulders. All these people in the world, are ignoring me at best, and throwing tomatoes at me, at worst. I realized I could never find the strength to finish all the tasks before me, let alone, finish well.

Today, I have only one month left to finish the revisions on my dissertation. I have to pray for at least 20-30 minutes every day, or else I can’t hold it all together.

This morning, as I was praying, a song came to my mind, “Calling All Angels”, by Train. It was a newer, upbeat tune, and the thought of it brought me some energy. As the tune played on in my head, it came to the chorus. The words said, “I won’t give up, if you don’t give up!” Then I recognized that God was speaking to me through this song.

For the reader to get the full flavor of what I experienced in my prayer. Listen to the song on the video above, while reading through the lyrics below. Imagine that it is God himself Who is talking to you through the song. God is holding you accountable, but He’s also giving you the grace to make the decision about what you want to do with your life.

When the understanding of God’s perspective finally hits you, you’ll get a sense of the Lord’s transcendental glory. After that, nothing else will seem to matter, and that is also what gives you the power to overcome all these difficulties.

I need a sign, to let Me know you’re here
All of these lines are being crossed over the atmosphere

I need to know, that things are gonna look up [for you]
‘Cause I feel us drowning in a sea spilled from a cup

When there is no place safe, and no safe place to put My head [i.e. thoughts and intentions]
When you can feel the world shake from the Words that are said

And I-I-I-I’m, calling all angels…
And I-I-I-I’m, calling all you angels…

And I won’t give up, if you don’t give up!
I won’t give up, if you don’t give up!
I won’t give up, if you don’t give up!
I won’t give up, if you don’t give up!

I need a sign, to let me know you’re here
‘Cause My TV set just keeps it all from being clear [to you (God owns everything, including your TV)]

I want [you to give me] a reason for the way [you think] things have to be
I need a hand to help build up some kind of hope [for you] inside of Me

And I-I-I-I’m, calling all angels…
And I-I-I-I’m, calling all you angels…

When children have to play inside, so they don’t disappear
While private eyes solve marriage lies ’cause We don’t talk for years [in prayer]

And football teams are kissing queens, and losing sight of having dreams
In a world where what We want is only what We want until it’s Ours…

And I-I-I-I’m, calling all angels…
And I-I-I-I’m, calling all you angels…
And I-I-I-I’m, calling all angels…
And I-I-I-I’m, calling all you angels…

Calling all you angels…
(I won’t give up, if you don’t give up)
Calling all you angels…
(I won’t give up, if you don’t give up)
Calling all you angels…
(I won’t give up, if you don’t give up)
